Wedding skin in 2027: a month-by-month plan

By Dr Tafadzwa, Founder of Lumina Aesthetics, Limerick

If you are getting married in 2027, you have the one thing that actually matters for skin: time. Almost every bridal skin disappointment I see comes from starting too late and trying to compress months of work into weeks.

Here is the honest timeline, for brides and for the bridesmaids and mums who ask me the same questions.

12 months out: start the boring things

Daily SPF, a cleanser that suits you, and one active you will actually keep using. This is also the window for anything that works slowly — microneedling for texture or scarring runs as a course spaced four to six weeks apart, and the full result shows around three months after the last session.

If you have a skin concern you have been ignoring for years, now is when it is genuinely fixable.

6 months out: the main work

This is the sweet spot. There is room to try something, see how your skin responds, adjust, and still have months in hand. Polynucleotides suit skin quality and under-eye crepiness; a microneedling course can finish here comfortably.

If you are considering anti-wrinkle treatment for the first time, this is when to have the consultation — not because you need it, but because a first treatment should never be close to the day. You want to see how you respond with time to spare.

3 months out: refine, do not experiment

Repeat what has worked. Stop introducing anything new. Any treatment you have at this point should be one your skin has already met.

1 month out: hands off

No new treatments, no new products, no “one last thing”. This is the window where a reaction has nowhere to settle before photographs.

2 weeks out: nothing at all

No injectables, no peels, no microneedling, no facials you have not had before. A standard facial you have had a dozen times is fine. Anything else is a risk with no upside.

For the bridal party

Bridesmaids and mothers of the bride often book late and together, which is the worst combination — several people having a first treatment at once, close to the day. If the group wants something done, book a consultation early and stagger it. We see patients from across Limerick and, every two weeks, from North Kerry at our Moyvane clinic day.

What we will talk you out of

Starting something new inside a month. Having a first treatment because someone else in the group is. And chasing a change that is really about nerves rather than skin. A wedding is a bad reason to look different from yourself — the photographs last longer than the trend.

If you are not sure where you are on this timeline, a consultation will tell you plainly, with no obligation to book anything.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start skin prep before my wedding?

Twelve months out for anything that works slowly, such as a microneedling course for texture or scarring. Six months out is the sweet spot for most treatments — enough time to see how your skin responds and adjust. Three months out, refine rather than experiment.

How late is too late for a first treatment?

Inside one month. A first treatment should never be close to the day, because you have no idea yet how your skin responds and no time for anything to settle. Two weeks out we would not treat at all.

Can the bridesmaids and mothers of the bride book together?

Yes, but book the consultations early and stagger the treatments. Several people having a first treatment at once, close to the day, is the riskiest version of this and the one we see most often.

What should I avoid in the last fortnight?

Injectables, peels, microneedling and any facial you have not had before. A standard facial you have had many times is fine. Anything new in that window has nowhere to settle before photographs.

Do you see bridal parties from outside Limerick?

Yes. Patients travel from across Limerick, and we run a doctor-led clinic day every two weeks at Urban Angels in Moyvane, Co. Kerry, for North Kerry brides and their parties.
