Better skin, your skin

Not everyone wants an injectable — and not everyone needs one. Microneedling is for the person who looks in the mirror and wishes their skin looked healthier: smoother texture, smaller-looking pores, softer fine lines, fewer reminders of old breakouts. It doesn't change your face. It improves the quality of the skin you already have.

At Lumina Aesthetics in Limerick, microneedling is a cornerstone of our skin-first philosophy. It's often the treatment we recommend instead of something more invasive — because when skin quality improves, people simply look fresher, and that's frequently the result patients were really after.

How it works

Microneedling uses very fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your skin responds the way it's designed to — by repairing, renewing and producing fresh collagen. Over a course of treatments, that repair process gradually improves:

Honest expectations: microneedling is not a one-treatment miracle. It works best as a course of 3–6 sessions, with gradual, cumulative improvement — and we'd rather tell you that upfront than oversell you a single session.

What to expect

After a consultation to assess your skin and goals, each session takes around 45–60 minutes including numbing time. Your skin will look flushed — like mild sunburn — for a day or two, with possible light flaking afterwards. Most of our Limerick patients are back to their normal routine the next day. Sessions are usually spaced 4–6 weeks apart, and we'll build a simple skincare plan around your course to protect your results.

A good place to start

If you're aesthetics-curious but nervous about injectables, microneedling is one of the best first steps there is: a genuine, evidence-supported treatment that improves how your skin looks and behaves without changing anything about your features. And because Lumina is doctor-led, your skin is assessed with a medical eye — including being honest with you if microneedling isn't the right tool for your particular concern.

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

Usually a course of 3–6 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, depending on your skin and what we're treating. We'll give you an honest estimate at consultation — not a sales pitch.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied before treatment, and most patients describe the sensation as a light vibration or mild scratching. It's very tolerable.

How much downtime is there?

Expect redness like mild sunburn for 24–48 hours and possibly some light flaking after. Most people are comfortable being back at work the next day.

Will it help my acne scars?

Microneedling is one of the better-evidenced treatments for improving acne scarring, particularly rolling and shallow scars. Deeper scars may need a combined approach — we'll assess honestly and tell you what's realistic.

Is it safe for my skin type?

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types and tones, but a consultation comes first — including your skin history, any active breakouts or conditions, and whether now is the right time to treat.
